Intern Diaries: LOOK Magazine Day 2 & 3

The last couple of days at Look have been just as busy as the first. We were still trying to chase a couple of really big stories so lots of the days have been spent trying to get interviews, quotes and pictures in preparation for press day which was today! I have also been spending time researching health pieces, transcribing interviews and hunting down funny celeb tweets – all in a days work on a features desk!

I also got a fun little treat this morning when I found out that Cadbury had set up camp in the building. They were in to showcase their new chocolate – one with cookies in and one with popping candy and jellies in (sounds worse that it tastes I promise!) I went up to the mini Cadbury land with one of the girls from the desk and we were forced to play some interactive games and we had to pretend to be kangaroos and crush cookies. The ridiculousness was worth it though because we were rewarded with free chocolate at the end! Thanks Cadbury!

You would think that would have been enough food – but this is me and of course that means that there is always room for more. When I am interning I always try and explore the area surrounding my office in my lunch hour. One big selling point of IPC’s headquarters is its proximity to Borough Market  - London’s most popular (and super yum) food market. I have been meaning to take a trip to Borough Market for years and with it only eight minutes walk away I thought why not? I had already eaten before I went so no second lunch for me (although I was so tempted by chorizo sandwiches and handmade burgers) so instead ate my way around all the free samples of cheese, oils and brownies.

Everything looked so good and was so fresh that I have already vowed to myself to come back for Lunch one day when I am back at IPC in the summer! Because eating was off the cards I went for a coffee instead. Lucky for me there was a Monmouth Coffee right next door and so I could treat myself to an iced latte before heading back to the office. Monmouth roast all their own beans and are constantly voted one of the best spots for coffee in the city (see the queue out the door!) so I was in good hands.  I think a shot of double espresso didn’t go amiss either!

My afternoon was mostly more research and features-y stuff, but there was also a mass IPC fire alarm which had most of the building exit on mass, down seven flights of stairs, and congregate outside the Tate. It was like school but a bit more glam. On the way home I stopped at Laduree, which is becoming a bit of a tradition every time I pass and must stop. It is very cliché  but sometimes a girl must pretend she is Marie Antoinette, right?

I cannot believe tomorrow is my last day at Look already – it has whizzed by! I will be sad to leave as it has really been a great place to work! But on a more cheery note, tomorrow I am joining the Exeter clan in Cornwall for a wholesome weekend of countryside frolicking so stay tuned for that!
